NOTABLE QUOTES

"I'm so happy. I'm happy for the fans in Boston, I'm happy for Johnny Pesky, for Bill Buckner, for (Bob) Stanley and (Calvin) Schiraldi and all the great Red Sox players who can now be remembered for the great players that they were."-2004 Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling

"A hundred years from now, how will we make people understand what just happened here? How will we ever make them understand what happened The Year The Red Sox Finally Won The World Series? There was no way they could ever do this the good old normal way. Never. They're the Red Sox."-Jayson Stark, ESPN.com

"We wanted to do it so bad for the city of Boston. To win a World Series with this on our chests -- it hasn't been done since 1918. So rip up those '1918' posters right now." -2004 Red Sox first baseman Kevin Millar

"I dreamt about this day. I said my prayers every night to the big guy: 'Bring us a World Series."-Johnny Pesky, former Red Sox infielder after WS victory

Let's Play Ball
(By Don Hyslop, Scotian1)

How time flies! It does not seem that long ago that the Sox were battling the White Sox in game three of their playoffs and looked like they were going to score at least the tying run in that game only to have Johnny D. swing at ball four which should have produced the tying run in that game.
Since that time boy has a lot around Red Sox Nation changed. No longer do we have Damon, Mueller, Millar, or Mirabelli among others. Instead we now will be cheering for Snow, Gonzalez, Crisp, Lowell, Beckett, Seanez and Tavares. Many of the names have changed but the team is still our team as it has been in my case for the past 44 years when I made my first visit to Fenway at the age of 12. Up till that time I had always been a fan of the Evil Empire, primarily for two reasons I guess;1. they always won and 2. they were always on the one game of the week we could watch on TV, NBC's game of the week with Pee Wee Reese and Dizzy Dean. Thankfully my first visit to baseball's most beloved park changed all that for the better when I was born again into Red Sox Nation.
Now 44 years later with a World Series and several near misses under our belts we look forward to another summer where hope reigns supreme. Isn't it great to see spring training reports on the nightly news bringing a promise of warm summer days to come. Days at the ballpark or in front of the Bar-B-Que with Joe and Jerry on in the background. Isn't it amazing that here in Nova Scotia thanks to the direct line of the Ocean between Boston and ourselves I can listen to the games on the radio at any time throughout the day.
Will the Yankees offense rule the A.L., will their pitching hold up, will ours, are the Blue Jays really a threat? So many great questions that the answers to will be slowly revealed over the next several months. Right now our team almost looks complete with just a couple of matters to cause us consternation. Will Wells be dealt sooner or later? Is Manny going to be happy or will that matter? Is Roger's return just a dream or a possible nightmare? What about Schilling and Foulke? I quess most teams don't have the potential for drama that ours still has before the season even starts but then our team is the Red Sox isn't it.
Most of this years tickets are already sold, the passion is evident on all the talk shows and numerous Sox fan sites on the internet. We are ready for baseball 2006. Bring it on, we have strong appetite for baseball to satisfy!

Is there really a chance Roger could come back to Boston?

Or is it just something to talk about?

Most likely the latter as there is still no indication that he has any interest in playing for Boston or even in leaving Houston. The thought is more romantic then reality so your probably better off wasting your time watching the Olympics for the next few weeks then pondering this possibility.

They’ve told many this winter that it’s unlikely that Clemens, 43, will play for anyone other than the Houston Astros this season, if he plays at all.  Jeff Horrigan 2/11 Herald Article

The World Baseball Classic, What is it?

The World Baseball Classic is an international baseball tournament, featuring Major League players, to be first held in March 2006. It is the first international baseball tournament to feature major-league players; the Summer Olympics regularly features college and minor-league players, since it conflicts with the MLB season.-(Wikepedia.com).  The WBC will overlap spring training for the players involved. To prevent injury for pitchers a pitch count limit and mercy rules have been set.

Any additional questions and to purchase tickets visit www.worldbaseballclassic.com

The WBC will be played from March 3rd to March 20th and the following Red Sox players will represent their respective countries:

Blackley, Adam
Cora, Alex
Cox, Tim
DiNardo, Lenny
Durrington, Trent
Guerra, Joseph
Mota, Guillermo
Ortiz, David
Petagine, Roberto
Ramirez, Manny
Stern, Adam
Tavarez, Julian
