NOTABLE QUOTES

"I'm so happy. I'm happy for the fans in Boston, I'm happy for Johnny Pesky, for Bill Buckner, for (Bob) Stanley and (Calvin) Schiraldi and all the great Red Sox players who can now be remembered for the great players that they were."-2004 Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling

"A hundred years from now, how will we make people understand what just happened here? How will we ever make them understand what happened The Year The Red Sox Finally Won The World Series? There was no way they could ever do this the good old normal way. Never. They're the Red Sox."-Jayson Stark, ESPN.com

"We wanted to do it so bad for the city of Boston. To win a World Series with this on our chests -- it hasn't been done since 1918. So rip up those '1918' posters right now." -2004 Red Sox first baseman Kevin Millar

"I dreamt about this day. I said my prayers every night to the big guy: 'Bring us a World Series."-Johnny Pesky, former Red Sox infielder after WS victory

Damon will regret it- Jim Caple

By signing with New York, Damon destroyed his legacy in Boston. Despite his role in winning the long-coveted World Series, he instantly becomes dead to Red Sox fans for going over to the dark side. He's also going to hear boos in New York. His signing doesn't begin to help the Yankees' considerable pitching needs. Unless the Yankees solve those needs, they will struggle and Damon will become their scapegoat.

Damon will regret this. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but as soon as he gets his tires slashed in Boston. - ESPN Page 2, Jim Caple Link Above

Jesus Has Become Evil!

Damon Signs With Yankees, 4 Years 52 Million

The Yankees might be the bigger idiot here. Damon is a great player but he seems to be on the downside of his career and shouldn't have justified anything much more then the 4 Years $40 Million the Sox had reportedly offered him.  Again the Yankees continue to overpay for big name free agents.  When will they learn?  The Sox will hopefully remedy this by making moves that will make the team younger and still remain competitive.  Don't get me wrong this is a very tough loss to our biggest competitor and he is irreplaceable with what is available in the market. However, not matching this contract is probably the right thing to do for the long term. They Yankees get better in 06..The Sox get worse in 06 but into 07,08,09 I think the Yankees will have a center field problem.

Anyway, thanks Johnny for the good times.  We would wish you luck but instead we hope you literally "break a leg" for this one.

You will always be 1 of the 25 from 04'

Sox to Meet With Johnny Damon Tonight- Boston Herald

Peter Gammons on GM opening- There have been some comical suggestions, but Hoyer is older than Epstein when Theo got the job, more experienced and has been Epstein's right-hand man for his tenure as Boston GM. He also understands the requirements of owner John Henry, who is a great boss and not going to allow the franchise to drift to mediocrity. Insider Subscription needed 12/5
