Red Sox Nation has gone Hollywood

Our teams recent success has changed the face of the typical Sox fan. The average denizens of Red Sox Nation are no longer number crunching analysts that were once considered the most intelligent in the game. Johnny Damon has become a poster on a wall for his value as a sex symbol and not for home many hits he has. Manny Ramirez is a superhero and David Ortiz has been turned into a cartoon character.  Bronson Arroyo is a rock star for heaven's sake!  The image of the Red Sox and the fans that follow them has gone Hollywood on us.

The Red Sox have a large following outside of Boston because many New Englanders relocate to other parts of the country but are a lot of the cheers in Tampa and Baltimore now from people that jumped on the speeding bandwagon?  No doubt there been a little bit of saturation in what is known as "Red Sox Nation" since we won it all last year.  Us "Born Into It" Red Sox fans led a life of pain and suffering until 2004.  This pain and suffering is something that has formed who we are as fans.  We paid our dues folks.  It doesn't seem fair that we now have to share our love with people that wear the Red Sox "B" as a fashion item.  There is nothing wrong with rooting for our team in fact it is somewhat flattering but it hurts to share our popcorn after we paid for it.  I am proposing that we have a standard exam, like a U.S. citizen exam for new members of "Red Sox Nation".  The questions won't be too tough and you will get a study booklet before but after the test you will have a greater appreciation of what many of us have been through in our lives as Sox fans.

We do welcome the new members of Red Sox Nation. We hope that you will do your best to learn a little bit about the history of the team and the fans so that we keep the integrity of who the typical Red Sox Fan is. Go Sox!
